CALCULUS FOR A CAUSE

WHAT WE DO

Twice a year the math department and calculus BC students of South Pasadena High School host a tutoring event

to prepare students for their math finals and raise money for charity.

By charging students $20 for a review packet and one-on-one tutoring from the AP calculus BC students, we prepare students to succeed on their finals and raise money for a designated charity

HOW WE DO IT

The South Pasadena High School Calculus BC students and alumni do everything.

They lead, they advertise, they tutor, and they organize.

The staff and teachers are there only to supervise, everything is done by the students.

No math packet goes without being paid for, so if a student cannot afford one we give them a scholarship that they can apply for.

The scholarships are paid for by miscellaneous donators and alumni.

THIS YEAR

This year we are raising money for the Sri Lanka Medical Association

They help Sri Lankan children with cancer or need for prosthetic limbs which are far out of their income. They also help provide care for people with mental illnesses as there is currently extensive lack of mental health literacy which promotes limited access to optimal care.
